The students completed their first STEM project of the year. They had to make apple rafts using only apple pieces, toothpicks and a sandwich bag. They all did amazing and decided that it was super easy.

On Monday, August 21 the students were able to experience a Solar Eclipse. We didn't get to see it in totality, but it was still an amazing experience that I hope they will always remember.
On the first day of Fall the boys were amazed that I could make a broom stand on its own. They then had to try it out for themselves.
In a recent Social Studies chapter the students learned about Mespotamia and how they used to write. There were over 800 symbols and characters they used. We decided our 26 letter alphabet was a lot easier!
We cut open some persimmon seeds last week. According to the majority of the seeds it's looking like a cold, snowy winter.
We had our first experiment in class a few weeks ago. The boys were given Skittles to show them how easily things can dissolve in water. It was neat to see how quickly the colors changed!
After reading the book Wonder our class decided that we would display a quote a day; have discussion about the quote and came up with a class motto. Our class motto is Kinder Than Necessary and we have really enjoyed our daily quotes. Some are a little abstract for the class, but overall, most have been very thought provoking.
During English class the past two days the students have been working on stories about what they think the world will be like in 100 years, and then illustrating that future. Some very creative minds I have in my class this year. General consensus is that we will be living in a zombie apocalypse. I also used an aging app to age the kids to middle age. I don't think the app is very reliable, but we had a ton of fun taking the pictures.
During our science lesson on Physical Changes in Matter the students tired their hand at Origami to see that even though they are folding the paper into a different shape, if you unfolded it, it would return to it's original shape. It was neat to see how well they turned out.
The students are learning about Atoms and Molecules this week in Science. We had a fun hands-on learning experience about how atoms based on their amounts of protons, neutrons, and electrons can look different when you make a model of them. I was impressed by how, even though they were given the same atom their models might look a little different.
